Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go!

Speed Racer As a part of a corporate event , we went to an indoor race track to step into souped up electric go carts that can get up to 45 mph. The first race was a 12 lap race for pole position with the pole going to the person with the fastest individual lap. After a slow start, each lap got faster and my best lap was 27.09 seconds putting me 14th out of 32 racers. That seeded me sixth in the second race of the day. The second race was a 16 lap race to the finish with 8 participants. A couple of early spin outs, allowed me to first move into 4th and then quickly into 2nd place but over a second back of the leader, who avoid the frays behind their car. But on each succeeding lap, I moved ever so close, and on the last lap I made a frantic push to take the lead, but alas, I came up .31 seconds short or about a third of a car length.

Going into the race, I didn’t think it would be that fun, but I really had a good time racing the carts, especially knowing it was on the company’s dime. After the race, I was sweaty, my heart was pumping and my arms were sore all the next day. I now have a new respect for NASCAR drivers.
