Breakfast of Champions
Of all the posts I have written, Eat breakfast like a king has clearly gotten the most hits (nearly 1,800). In the post, I lamented about not having variety at breakfast, something none of us would tolerate for lunch or dinner and I was searching for a variety of breakfast foods that are quick to make and would increase my protein intake to make me less hungry at lunch so I could handle a quick lunchtime workout. Even visitor Ray left a comment that they are also tired of eating cereal each morning and are looking forward to a little breakfast variety.
Well its been six months since that post and I can honestly say that I have a different breakfast each morning. But I have to say there is something about mornings that must encourage all of us to become creatures of habit. Although I no longer have the same cereal each morning, I now have the same breakfast each day of the week. If I don’t have the Jeff McMuffin on Thursday, I am grumpy all day. so, without further ado, here are my regular breakfast choices.
- Monday -Bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. I usually get a smaller whole wheat bagel (3oz.) lather on Sierra Nevada cream cheese and a good quality salmon.
- Tuesday – Back to my Kashi Protein crunch cereal with non fat milk.
- Wednesday – Whole wheat croissant with salami and cheese. Just warm the croissant and add any type of cold cut with a slice of cheese. A surprisingly filing savory breakfast.
- Thursday – Jeff McMuffin. English muffin toasted with a fried egg, a slice of cheese, a cooked piece of Canadian bacon and a dash of salsa. A really simple quick breakfast to make, very filling and a family favorite.
- Friday – A two egg omelet. Simply cook the omelet and fill it with anything you want. Cheese, cream cheese, tomato, avocado, bacon, leftover smoked salmon from Monday, chives, feta, goat cheese, anything your heart desires.
- Saturday – Oatmeal. I cannot think of a better way to start out a morning.
- Sunday – Anything you want. Lots of times, we end up going out to the local pancake house after I run.
As you can tell, these breakfasts are higher in protein than your typical breakfast. I find eating proteins early fills me up and I get less hungry during the day. Oh yeah, one more thing. Each breakfast is accompanied by home roasted coffee. Two cups each weekday morning and maybe three on the weekends.
So what is your favorite breakfast for those quick workday mornings? I would love to have any new ideas that I could add to my repitoire and share with others searching for breakfast variety. Leave a comment or Twitter me with your ideas.
